As social golfers, we tend to have more freedom in choosing where we play our game, or who we play with. We highly recommend the clubs listed here. We have wonderful feedbacks from other social golfers who have had the pleasure of their company.
The Social Golf Club Championships (SGCCs) of Australia are a network of official National and State golf championships developed, operated and owned by event manager Social Golf Australia (SGA). The events are supported by Golf Australia and the relevant amateur governing golf bodies in each State. In 2009, each event is a stand-alone championship; however, the individual members of the winning teams in the 2009 State Championships will each receive preferential and discounted entry into the 2010 Australian Championships held annually on the Gold Coast.
Founded in 2005 at Palm Meadows on the Gold Coast, the ASGCC attracts social golfers from around Australia every August to compete for the national title. The event is supported by Golf Australia and features individual awards for grade winners and a four-player team event playing stableford aggregate to determine which social club becomes the national champions. In 2007, Event HQ took over management of the event and from 2009, SGA will manage the event in partnership with Event HQ and Palm Meadows. The 2009 ASGCC is booked for August 23 - 26 and will be played at Lakelands, Robina Woods and Palm Meadows with accommodation available in the Championship Package at the Radisson Resort Gold Coast.
The VSGCC is supported by Golf Australia, the Victorian Golf Association (VGA) and Women's Golf Victoria (WGV) as an official State Championship. The competition is between teams of four representing their social golf club playing stableford rounds and aggregating the individual stableford scores to make the team total. Four regional qualifiers are played throughout the year and the leading seven teams from each qualifying round win a place to be one of the 28 teams in the final competing for the honour to call their social golf club the official State Champion. Players are required to have a current official Australian handicap to compete and the event. The individual members of the 2009 State Championship team will each receive a 30% discount on their entry into the 2010 Australian Championships.
In year one in Queensland, the championships will operate with the same format as above except it will be held as a one-day event. The inaugural QSGCC will be held on Sunday November 1st at Indooroopilly Golf Club. The event is supported by both Golf Australia and Golf Queensland and is an official State Title. The individual members of the 2009 State Championship team will each receive a 30% discount on their entry into the 2010 Australian Championships. From 2010, the event will expand using the Victorian model with qualifying rounds and a final.
In year one in New South Wales, the championships will be held as a one-day event with the same format as the inaugural Queensland Championships. The inaugural NSW SGCC will be held on Sunday November 29th at Riverside Oaks Golf Course. The event is supported by Golf Australia and we are currently in discussions with the NSW Golf Association and Women's Golf NSW to seek their support. The individual members of the 2009 State Championship team will each receive a 30% discount on their entry into the 2010 Australian Championships. From 2010, the event will expand using the Victorian model with qualifying rounds and a final.
